Called to Community // Oct. 2021

The lessons in this unit invite us to look at church from the perspective of the first members who assembled as the body of Christ. We will discover what it means to belong to the community of faith and expand our understanding of what the church is called to be. Thank you for joining us for Sunday School!

Wednesday Nights at First Methodist

First Methodist is the place to be on Wednesday Nights! We have something for the whole family. Due to the rise in COVID cases, we will not have Supper as planned – we will update you as soon as those are back on. If you are looking for community and fellowship, join us this Wednesday Night. Here’s what you can expect for every stage of life:

6 weeks – 5th grade: Our Children’s Building opens at 6:15pm to allow you time to drop of your kids and make it to your small group. Nursery kids (6 weeks – 5 years) will be cared for by our loving team of volunteers who will play games, read books, and spend time with your little one. Elementary aged kids will participate in 12:2 Crew and Choir. In 12:2 Crew our kids will experience God through multimedia, games, teaching, and prayer. Our children come to know who God is, what His Word says, & how to use their Bibles. During Choir, our kids will be able to bury the treasure of God’s truth deeper in their hearts & participate in leading the congregation in worship on occasion. If you have any questions about Wednesday Night Small Groups for kids, please reach out to Allison Vandenbergh, Director of Children’s Ministry.

6th grade – 12th grade: Thrive Student Ministry meets at 6:30pm in the Student Center. On Wednesday Nights Bible Study is led by Phillip George, Student Ministries Director. For more information, please reach out to Phillip George.

There are several Small Groups for adults to pick from! Please click here for our current Small Groups. The groups are ongoing, but the studies change each semester. All groups start at 6:30pm and are located throughout the campus.

We can’t wait to spend Wednesday Nights with you and your family!

Keeping an Eye on COVID: Together, Safely

We have made some adjustments to our Sunday morning gatherings in an effort to remain “Together, Safely,” in the midst of the ongoing rise in COVID infections in our community. We continue to seek ways to maintain our in-person ministry for the spiritual good of our community while mitigating risk and doing our part to protect our community.

8:30 AM Service Moves to the Sanctuary. Our 8:30 AM worship service will take place in the sanctuary where there will be plenty of room for physical distance.

Sanctuary Physical Distancing. Seating in the sanctuary will be arranged for physical distancing. Ropes will be up on every other pew and open seating will be the same.

Youth Sunday School Location. Youth Sunday School will be held in the gym to provide ample space for physical distancing. For information and the most up-to-date information, please contact Phillip George, Youth Minister.

As usual, we highly encourage wearing masks when gathering at church. Our pastors and staff will be wearing theirs. Additionally, please monitor your health. If you are sick, experiencing symptoms, or have been exposed, please stay home and enjoy our online service at 10:30 AM.

We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments accordingly. As things improve, we will make adjustments to relax these interventions.

Please continue to pray for those who are sick, our health care workers, educators, and community leaders. Pray for our pastors, our staff, and our church leaders. Pray also for our hospitals, schools, and church.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Jim

The Life of Job // August 2021

The book of Job wrestles with questions of suffering and the goodness of God. During the next five weeks, we will attempt to move beyond simplistic answers to a deeper and more honest understanding of what it means to trust God in the midst of the most challenging circumstances of our lives.
